I was amazed how many students chose their parents. Of these students, almost every single one stated that a reason why they chose their parents was because their parents "listen to what they have to say." I think there is a lesson to be learned in this while I raise my two children. When I'm discussing things with Malachi, he often says, "Let me talk!" in the middle of the conversation. While he is wrong for interrupting what I am saying, he brings an interesting point to mind. How many times do I sit and barely listen because he has been literally talking all day long and I am just tired? How many times do I say, "Because I said so" without allowing him to share his point of view. In the end, he needs to obey me but I need to work on my listening skills so he feels the validation of his voice being heard. Someday as I work on this, I hope Malachi can say that one of the reasons why he loves me is because I listen to him and hear what he is sharing with me.

52 Projects in One Year

Project #1: I created this framed artwork for only EIGHT dollars!! So here are some of my New Year's goals.

Note: I am not calling them resolutions because I know they are destined to fail if I do.

1. Read 75 books this year. Last year in 2011, I read 64 books so I wasn't that far off. I keep track of the books I have read on a wonderful website called goodreads.com. They are a great resource in finding out what your friends are reading and books you might find of interest. They also allow you to set a reading goal and they keep track of it for you when you log that you've completed a book.

2. I know this is going to sound cliche; I would like to get down to 115 lbs. I am pigging out this weekend because I know I am about to start eating more healthy. I'm not going to diet. I'm just going to start watching what I eat and making better choices.

3. In 2012, I will run a 10K in under 1 hour at the Rhodes City 10K on March 17. I am also registering for the Flying Pig Half-Marathon on May 6. My goal for the half marathon is finish with a smile on my face, standing upright, and a feeling of accomplishment no matter what the time.

4. I will complete one DIY (do it yourself) project per week so that's a total of 52 projects this year. I will be finding most of my ideas from a wonderful website, Pinterest!

5. Most importantly, I have really gotten behind on my walk with with God. I will be working a little harder this year on spending more time in quiet and prayer seeking what God has for me in the future.

2011 in Review

2011 was a great year for me...Briefly, here a few things I loved about 2011...

1. I know that I cannot wait for summer to begin. During the summer, Ben is going to start working four long days so that we can spend time together and have a three day weekend. I get to go to FL. Our friend, Sarah, is getting married. We plan on taking the kids to the aquarium. So many things to look forward to. Plus, I will get to spend endless hours outside enjoying the hot sun. Our dog is curled up next to us and Ben and Hannah are sitting on the other couch. I can hear Hannah cooing and Ben laughing at her enjoying her smiles and baby love. Malachi is watching T.V. and talking to his dog, Buster. I can smell a faint dog smell but it comforts me because I know how protective our dog is of our little family.

Moments like this remind me of how blessed I am to have a roof over my head, clothes on my back, healthy children, and a loving husband. Although sometimes Ben is a hot mess, I know he does everything he can to take care of our family. Who cares if I still have 10 lbs of baby weight or if my jeans don't fit me quite like they used to?

I am blessed by the little things like a rainy Saturday...

So...

It has been forever since I've last blogged or posted anything but figured I should start posting some pictures of my pregnancy onto my blog...The above picture of me was taken in September @ 19 weeks...more pics to follow!

For Mike - Ipod Shuffle

Wow...this is what a snow day does to you...

1. We went to Bowling Green to visit my brother, camped out at the KY horse park, and I've been busy with new teacher meetings, professional development and getting my classroom ready. Finally today at 5:45 I felt like was finally ready for the swarms of students that will be coming down the hallway tomorrow. I will write more later but I thought I'd share a few pics of how the classroom looks now that I'm done.

My New Hobby

Today I spent the morning with a lady from our church, Pat. She and her husband have a farm and with it a garden and a few grape vines. I have always been interested in canning and having my own garden but we really haven't had a house yet to establish a garden and vineyard. Hopefully that will happen soon but until then, I am trying to learn the tricks of the trade.

I spent the morning learning how to can green beans. It was so exciting absorbing all the wisdom about canning and becoming self sufficient with a garden. In about 4 hours, we were able to can 20 quarts of green beans. The best surprise? At the end of the morning, she said that I was able to take home six of the jars I canned. Then she said that when I come back to learn how to can tomato sauce, I can take home six more jars. Mason jars are pretty expensive but this was her gift to me. Twelve jars to start my canning hobby. After we use the veggies in them, I will be able to save them to use once I have my own garden. I'm so excited!!! Thank you, Pat!

Family Weekend

This post is long overdue but I definitely wanted to write something about our weekend trip. We decided to use my first weekend off of Panera to visit Cincinnati. We were able to get a great package which included tickets to the Newport Aquarium. Ben and I really enjoyed our time together with Malachi. We went out to a sit down restraunt and then followed that with some quiet relaxation at the hotel. Ben bought me some awesome wine which turned out to be a little strong. I'm not a big fan of Merlot anyway. We tried it the next night with Saralee and Brandon except we added 7up and it tasted so much better.

I loved taking Malachi to the Newport Aquarium. His face was classic and full of wonder. I had a great time watching him enjoy the sharks, fish, frogs, birds, and penguins.

Finally, we ended the weekend by visiting Ben's sister, Saralee and her family. The kids had a great time playing together which left the adults time to play the Wii. We played BoomBlox for a long time with a little bit of tennis and bowling. It was fun.

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5223676750079874114" style="DISPLAY: block; We have recently been watching the show Ninja Warrior pretty consistently. We find ourselves really rallying for the Japanese competitors. We also join in laughter at the crazy subtitles.

I love how the Japanese culture really gives you an insight into honor and competition. They truly love competing in these events and you can feel their humiliation in defeat as they plummet to the murky waters awaiting them if they fall. You can rejoice with them when they finally reach out and slam their hand down on that wanted red button at the end of the course, the steam shoots up on either side of them, and the crowd goes crazy.

The people that compete are truly dedicated. Some of them go so far as constructing mini courses in their backyards or garages in order to train for the next competition. they are in constant training and never stop for one minute. Also, I'm surprised at how fit some of them are even in their late thirties. Amazing.

I love watching Ninja Warrior.

Happy Fourth of July!

Fourth of July was great. We all enjoyed some cleaning, hanging out together, Wii games, and good food. Ken made ribs on the grill and even Malachi joined into the messy fun. Following, we lit sparklers and Malachi was brave enough to hold them this year. I won't write too much but here are some pictures to enjoy. Also, I'm going to attempt to upload a video of Malachi playing with the sparklers.

Malachi enjoying the ribs

Malachi with Sparklers

Ok. Mrs. Herbert retired last year and as I explored my classroom I was a little overwhelmed at the amount of files, books, and binders that were now mine to go through. I couldn't believe how many resources and files full of lesson plans, curriculum maps, and support materials that were left. Elya and Sam went with me and they kept saying how much of a blessing this would be if she didn't come back to get anything. I doubted she would leave it. I mean, as you can see from the pictures I posted, she even left plants in the windows.

Anyway, back to the phone call. Mrs. Herbert basically called to tell me that everything in the classroom is mine. She also discussed the teachers on the team and how she knows that will be super supportive of me as a first year teacher. She told me that when I had interviewed at the school a couple of years ago, she told everyone when I left the room that whenever I was finished with school, I was going to be an amazing teacher. She said she felt the love I have for students and teaching. We talked for about fifteen minutes and she gave me her cell phone, home phone, and email address. She said she would like to arrange a time when we can meet in the classroom together before school starts. She was so encouraging.

It was really nice to hear from her because I had felt a little intimidated by the shoes I would have to fill. Mrs. Herbert was a legend at this school and an amazing teacher. She really made me feel like it's ok to be different than her but she would love to instill as much as her wisdom as possible. It's nice to have a mentor already in my career.

Review of Burts Bees Facial Kit

We went out to eat with Aunt Beth the other day at the Irish Rover in Louisville (amazing fish and chips) and she as usual dispensed gifts to us all. One of the gifts she gave the girls was a mini Burts Bees Facial Kit. I love pampering so I was excited to try it out. Here is a short review:

Step One: Cleansing

The cleansing part was really refreshing. The cleanser included smelled great (orange essence); however, if you like your cleansers to foam a little then this is not the cleanser for you. It was more of a gel cleanser. A little gooey but my face felt refreshed afterwards.

Step Two: Exfoliate

The exfoliater was the same scent: orange essence. My face felt great afterwards but it kind of hurt while I was exfoliating.

Step Three: Facial Mask

Ok here is where is gets tricky. You pore the satchet of green powder into the mixing bowl and then you have options of what you'd like to add for different facial issues. I added egg whites to "refine my pores." Very sticky while putting it on. However, the egg whites were cold so then it felt great. Leave it on for 15 minutes and it slowly dries. It was really dry. I felt like I couldn't even smile!!! It felt great though.

Step Four: Mousterize

Mousterizer smelled like vanilla icing and was really creamy. Left my face a little too shiny but it may have been because I put too much on.

I woke up this morning and my face did look good. You can see pictures at olsonadoption.blogspot.com.

Number Two: My husband has posted his first video blog for his one hundredth post. We have been married for about five and a half years now. The last five years have been a roller coaster. We literally have had highs and lows throughout as well as some times when we are just cruising along. Last night we were talking with Sam and Elya and discussing ages that we were when Malachi was born. Sam was a little thrown off when we all realized that I was only twenty when Ben and I were married.

I found this interesting because when I was getting married in a whirlwind of a wedding planned in three weeks, I felt so sure of myself. I felt like an adult making a very big adult decision. I guess when you are making a big decision, it makes you feel older. Now, when I think about being twenty and getting married, I think about how young I was. I don't regret our marriage. This is not what this blog is about. I just think it is interesting how as you get older, your perspective changes. I'm not sure I would want Malachi to get married when he's twenty. But if I protest, I feel like an idiot when he screams across the dining room table, "Mom, you were only twenty years old when you married Dad."

I am not looking forward to Malachi nor myself growing up anytime soon...

A New Niece

I just recieved word today that my sister is going to Vietnam to pick up her new baby girl!!!! They are staying with us at Ben's parents house. I was able to get the house cleaned up for their arrival which was nice. They came on Thursday and we relaxed and prepared ourselves for the whole clan getting together at the Cincinnati Zoo. After driving through terrible traffic, we finally arrived and realized it was free admission day. Total pandemonium. There were people everywhere.

After a few hours, we all were pretty frustrated and in stinky moods. We decided to leave and seek refuge at the Cincinnati Mills mall. (Ironic name isn't it?) It was nice to have air conditioning and a place to sit.

Sam and Elya's visit has been great. Malachi adores his Uncle Sam and Sam has indulged him by taking him swimming in the FREEZING pool a couple of times. The four siblings got together last night before Heather, Darrel, kids, and Saralee left to go back to FL. They had a nice time together joking and laughing.

Sam and Elya will be with us for a couple more days which is nice. We have had a visit from Heather and Darrell and their two little ones for about a week and next will be Sam and Elya coming tomorrow morning. There is a short break in between visits in order for me to clean, do laundry, and re-invigorate myself.

I really enjoyed the time with Heather, Darrell, Jazmyn and Holden. I think I probably spent the most time with them out of anyone because I stay home right now. Malachi is really going to miss his cousins when they have to go back to Florida. Right now, after staying for a week, they have all gone to Saralee and Brandon's house in Ohio.

Today no one will be here. Then tomorrow, Sam and Elya will arrive and stay for a while. Hopefully, I'll keep some posts up so you can see pictures. :)

The Contract is Signed

On Tuesday, I went down to the Anderson County Board of Ed and met with the human resources department. I traveled through three offices to discuss hiring paperwork, salary schedules (I'm very happy with my first year pay!!), and health insurance. To be honest, it was a little overwhelming. I ended the time by meeting with the superintendent to sign my contract. It was really formal having him talk to me and then witness me signing my contract and then him signing right underneath. Wow. Overwhelming. I had butterflies in my stomach for a minute when I put my signature down on those papers.

I was so worried about finishing school and getting a job that once I got the job I thought I would be less stressed. But once the excitement wore off, I freaked out. What the heck am I going to do next year!!! Am I going to be a good teacher? Will I be able to control the kids? How am I going to know what to teach? Will I get along with my team teachers? Where is Malachi going to go to preschool? Is it too late to register him?

Ben was looking forward to my getting a job so that I would start to be a normal person and not a mean stressed person. I hope all these worries subside as I start getting the hang of it next year...

Camp Sites and Weddings

This past weekend Ben, Malachi, and I went camping and to my nephews wedding in Bowling Green. I'm glad we went camping because we really had some great family time but it was REALLY hot and Malachi now has infected misquito bites all over him and on some very sensitive areas. :( We went to see Kung Fu Panda, which I'm sure my husband will write his own review of. It was a really funny movie and Malachi loved it. It's nice that he's old enough to take to the movies now and know that he will semi behave. We came back to the campsite and made hot dogs and s'mores. It was really interesting to have a fire in 90 degree weather.

The next day we went to the mall to get out of the heat before we met my sister, Chris and her husband, Skip. Ben took me to this store, Steve and Barry's, and I was so excited. They have Sarah Jessica Parker's new clothing line, Bitten. Because it was a grand opening, everything in the store was only $8.98. I bought a pair of really nice khakis and shirt to wear at my new job for less than 20 bucks!!! This was only a grand opening special but I guess normally there isn't anything in the store over 15-20 dollars. Unfortunatley, there is not one in Lexington. However, the next time we go to visit Saralee, Ben said we could stop at the S & B in Cincinatti.

Next came swimming with Chris and Skip. They took us out to eat at Cracker Barrel and we all drove to the wedding together.

The wedding was really pretty. The flowers were beautiful and I know a lot of work went into planning it. It was interesting seeing my nephew get married. I'm not that much older than him but it feels like I'm ages older when I see him getting married and the relationship so young. It feels like just a few years ago that Ben and I were married but it has actually been over five years. I cannot believe it. If I could give the married couple any advice it would be to stick with it no matter what. Even when the odds are against you and you feel like you want to walk out the door, pause and think about why you first were married. That should be a big enough reason to find a way to stay always.

Ok...Sorry for the mushiness... Here are some pics!!!

Malachi and I brushing our teeth in the morning.

Helping Daddy pound the stakes into the ground.

Playing with the pretty decorations.

They Called Back

For about a week now, I have not been able to blog. I haven't slept or been able to concentrate. I have been able to eat though in mass amounts. I have a huge zit on my chin now as a result of stress. This is why...

Last Friday, I went down to Anderson Middle School and interviewed for the position I've been obsessing about since the end of my internship. The position is for an eighth grade Language Arts teacher. The reason I wanted this job was because I had a possibility of having some of the students I had during my internship and I already knew the school and were friends with a lot of the other teachers. I walked into the interview "catiously confident" but came out with a pretty bleak outlook. I felt like I stumbled over all my words and messed up my answers.

I waited and waited and waited on Monday for a call and it never came. I figured someone else got the job. I talked to a friend I have down there and she said don't worry, it takes time. I waited all day Tuesday and still nothing. By Wednesday afternoon, I was pretty sure I didn't get the job. Right before four, the principal called. I am so excited to say that I was offered the job. Of course, I turned it down....

JUST KIDDING!!!!!

Next year, I will be an eighth grade language arts teacher at Anderson Middle School. :)

Babysitting Adventures

This week I am babysitting a friends one year old at our house. I figured I'd do this for some extra money and to help her out because she's having some trouble with her babysitter. Malachi is an only child and he's always been so good at playing on his own and keeping out of the trouble for the most part. I forgot how busy a one year old is. This little boy is always on the move and plays constantly. He likes you to play with him because he has two older siblings at home that keep him entertained. Malachi has been pretty good with him this week but still insists that he does not want a baby brother or sister. He has only been jealous around nap time when I have to rock the baby to sleep. Then, he tells me he wants to be baby Malachi and be rocked. It has been an eye opening experience and I give props to all my siblings and sibling-in-laws that have more that one child to take care of on a daily basis. Props to my mom for taking care of six in her lifetime!!

DONE!

I'm so happy at this moment because I am completely finished with my Georgetown Graduate Portfolio. I love it. I think the best thing about it is there is a ton of stuff to unlock. I don't think I'll get bored with my work out because I can usually try something new everytime I work out. I know I eventually will have everything unlocked but then I will have so many options that I will keep busy. Favorites so far: Yoga, Step Areobics, Jogging, Hula Hoop and Snowboarding. The yoga is so much harder than doing it in front of the TV with a DVD. Because you have the WiiBoard you can actually see where your center of balance is and it is really hard to keep your body in line. Since I have been working out, I've noticed my body aching every morning so I know it is working my muscles. I absolutely love it and hope I can keep it up throughout the year. My goal is to lose 15 pounds by the end of summer...We'll see how it goes.

Buzz Cut

Ben recently went through a hair renovation and practically sheared his hair off like a sheep (Ben, I hope you get that). Malachi has been asking Ben to shave his head now for about a week. I love his baby hair and curls so I was really hesitant. I tried to cut his hair down to trim it and it was pretty uneven. Finally, today I told Ben, lets cut it. So Ben found the clippers and I put a towel around Malachi. Malachi smiled the whole time and tears came to my eyes as curls dropped to the floor. Ben did some final trimming with the scissors to get it even and it was finally done. I looked down at my three year old and realized, he is a little boy not a baby anymore.

Needless to say, now that I've seen it for a couple of hours, I'm getting used to it. He actually looks very cute and his eyes look so much bigger. He looks a lot more comfortable now without hair in his eyes.

Here is a pic:

In Process...

Finished Product!

What a Night!

At first it was like every Tuesday night. Ben gets home, we eat some dinner, and then all go to his softball game together. I didn't really feel like going but at the last minute decided to go. We arrived at the field to realize that some of the regulars weren't going to be able to come that night. They were stretching the roster and kept hoping for people to show up. You see, in co-ed softball, you have to have at least three women on your team to play. No one was sure if Tuyen was going to show up or not and they started joking with me, "Are you ready to play, Liz?" I was not prepared to play. At the moment, I had on low cut jeans (with serious lean over butt crack risk) and an AE hoodie which was more for style than comfort. However, at the final moment, it was decided that I would take one for the team and humiliate myself so everyone would get to play the game. I was catcher and kept tripping and dropping the ball. When I threw it back to the mound, it usually only made it half way there and the pitcher had to walk up to get the ball. Totally embarrassing. Then, it was our inning to bat. They put me last in hopes that I would just stand up there and get four balls and walk. I stood up to bat the first time and actually hit the ball! I made it to first but they got there faster and I was out. At least I hit the ball though. I was feeling better about myself. Then, catching again. I was getting better. I was catching the ball on the bounce and the ball was making it farther to the pitcher every time. Batting again...This time I made it to first, on the next batter up to second (my team was shouting, just look at the third base coach, and when he says run, RUN!) then, the next batter hit the ball. I ran as fast as I could to third and kept going. I made it to home with my team mate right behind my heels also making it to home with a slide right under me. Everyone was cheering for me.

I have been bad at sports all my life and to hear people cheering for my run to home felt great!!! I gained more confidence throughout the game and started to feel better and less embarrassed. I just might wear gym shorts next time and a t-shirt so that in case someone doesn't come, I'll be happy to be a back up. :)

Then the night became even better. Ben and I called Wal-Mart to see if they had any WiiFits. They are pre-sold everywhere but Wal-Mart doesn't do pre-sells. They said they would be releasing them at Midnight. Ben and I figured that because it is a popular item and sold out everywhere else, we should probably get there early. I was so psyched. I had never waited in line for a video game before and the anticipation was kind of neat. We arrived at WalMart and no chairs. The lady said the second shift comes on at 10 and it's up to them whether they do chairs or not. We waited and the second shift finally came on. They said they had thirty and because we were like the only people that had asked they said they were sure they wouldn't sell out right away. I debated just letting Ben pick it up the next morning. But then, what the heck, why not wait and live a little fun. We drove around and spent some time having really good talks which are impossible with Malachi around (he loves to be the center of attention and if you try to talk to someone else, he will say, "mommy, talk to ME.") We arrived back at 11:30 and walked around. Finally they brought them up front and we were first in a line of THREE people. The people in line were husbands sent by their wives to buy the product for them. We talked a little about video games for the Wii and what games they like best. Then we bought the WiiFit. I am so excited to try it out. I haven't yet because we were so tired when we arrived home and I had to make sure I blogged first thing this morning.

However, you can expect a review hopefully by tomorrow.

It was such a fun night. I hope you enjoyed reading and sharing in my excitement. :)

Highlights of The Weekend

We had such a busy weekend and there is so much to talk about. I'll just hit the highlights. I went to my hair appointment on Friday and much to my dismay walked out with a really really short cut. I mean, it is ok but it feels like it keeps getting shorter. Ben likes my hair short so luckily I don't have to compete with those Herbal Essences commercials for my husband's love. :)

While I was getting my hair cut and having in depth conversations with my hair dresser, John, about the newest trends in hair and clothes, Ben was in search at every store in Danville for a Nintendo Wii. See, many of you will think, "They live with his parents. If they can afford a Nintendo Wii surely they can afford to get their own place." Unfortunately, we first of all don't care what people think about is and second I don't have a job yet so we don't have consistent secondary income coming in yet. We were going to pay on some medical bills with our money but then Ben started obsessing...Many of you know that when Ben starts obsessing, we will usually get that object within 2-5 years. I decided that because this money was truly extra, we should splurge. Ben came into Genesis Salon and one of the hair dressers helped him find me in the salon. The minute I saw him I knew we were now the owners of a new Nintendo Wii.

I was kind of upset at first because he had spent SO MUCH money on one thing but then as we started to play and I kicked some butt in Mario Cart, Tennis, and Bowling, I LOVED it. I really really like this game system as opposed to the X-Box 360 which is more of Ben's system. I can't believe how much I love the Nintendo Wii. On the plus side, WiiFit is coming out soon and I really can't wait to buy it. Another attempt at losing some weight and not having to buy new clothes for next school year because of all the weight I've put on so far this summer. Kudos to Ben for convincing me to buy this awesome gaming system. We were able to play MarioCart last night with Sam and Elya which was great. I lost every game but it was still great. :)

Anyway, that was pretty much the weekend. See pics below for some Family Fun.

Oh yea, we had Pizza Hut on Friday...Icing on the cake!

New Haircut

Malachi Playing Mario Cart

(He Loved It!)

New Look

By the way, on a lighter note. I just cannot focus and concentrate on it. I have writer's block I guess. Right now, I have written like three different introductions for the Conceptual Framework Essay and they all sound like CRAP. I have no idea what to do. The stress of everything is mounting and I feel panic rising in me more often.

This is the first time I've really said this publicly but about a year ago, I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder Type II. Type II means you still are able to function in society and hold down a job without many extreme highs and lows or possible hospitalization. However, you still have highs and lows and in particular, I struggle with panic attacks. I've been on Lamictal for about a year and it's been a total success. I don't have panic attacks as often and I am able to have a sustained mood at all times. I was able to concentrate better when I started taking it and Ben really noticed a difference right away with my mood swings. This is unfortunately something I'll struggle with for the rest of my life, but now it is manageable.

During times of extreme stress (like now at the end of my time at Georgetown), I still have to work to use appropriate coping methods to deal with stress. I don't choose destructive methods anymore because I realize those are so temporary and really escalate the problem. Right now, I have a lot of panic because it is the end of my degree and I hope to get this finished as soon as possible. Anyway, back to work. I probably was a little too personal in this blog and may regret it. :)

Stressing Out

Poor Malachi...He has been so neglected this week because of my education. I feel like I stick him in front of the TV for like half of the day every day. Right now I am finishing up my portfolio for my graduate degree (the equivalent to a thesis paper) and sending out resumes, reference letters, and other application paraphernalia.

Last night, I was so overwhelmed I couldn't even fall asleep. I feel like I'm going to turn my portfolio in and they are going to say, "I'm sorry, Mrs. Mills. We cannot approve your graduation. In fact, why don't you just leave Georgetown College gracefully and start again somewhere else. You have failed." Ben laughed at me because he doesn't understand why I am so stressed about this. I guess I just have anxiety about having everything completely finished. I mean, what if I don't get a job? What if no one wants to hire me? Am I a complete loser?

Sorry about the negativity. I am just trying to vent a little before I start on my next phase of working on my papers again. There is so much to do and I wanted to get it done by the end of this week. Technically, I have until May 31st but it doesn't hurt to turn it in early...

Applications Complete

So far... applications completed for:

Frankfort Independent
Franklin County Schools
Anderson County Schools
Scott County Schools

My Application Process

As many of you know, I am a temporary stay at home mom this summer until I secure a teaching position for next fall. I have started the application process in three different counties within a thirty mile radius. I hate filling out applications so this is a total pain. Plus, there is a job that I really have my heart into and I hope and pray that the position works out. If not, I know there are plenty other jobs available.

I've noticed that Christian Academy's job application is the worst. I have been working on a paper for this application in which I must discuss the following:

1. My definition of a Christian
2. Why I am seeking a position in a Christian school
3. What I believe is the unique function of the Christian school
4. Entertainment in today's world
5. Homosexuality
6. Gossip

The discussion of many of these seems to me like most people wanting to secure the job will write down typical Sunday School answers. I struggle the most with the discussion of entertainment in today's world. This answer in itself might limit my ability to obtain the position. Ben and I have a little more liberal view of entertainment. For example, I do not limit myself to "christian" radio stations only. I listen to pop, sometimes rap, and in general any secular music that may appeal to me at the moment. Most recently, I have been interested in Fergie. (Humming "Clumsy" in the background...) Also, movies are a hard one to discuss. I really don't mind watching "R" rated movies. I don't enjoy movies that have strong sexual content (ie American Pie series and other movies like that) but I particularly enjoyed movies such as The Darjeeling Limited, The Royal Tennenbaums, V for Vendetta, etc. I'm not involved in video games so much but my husband has turned into quite a gamer so he is able to keep me updated on several games. For example, see his most recent blog on GTA IV. So, would I still obtain a position if I stated that entertainment in today's society may have negative effects on today's youth; however, I feel it is personal conviction that matters the most when deciding watch to listen to, watch and play.

Other than small frustrations, the application process is going well and at the end of may/early June, I hope to start receiving some calls. Wish me luck!

Completely Finished!

I am proud to say that I am completely finished with my MA degree from Georgetown College. He didn't really understand the idea of waiting in line or having to walk to the next ride. We also had trouble with stroller riding and holding hands. However, overall I felt for his first trip to Disney, he did an OK job. He really liked the 3-D Mickey Mouse movie and the parade.

Also, he was able to meet Mickey Mouse live in person which was fun. I wish I could have known what he was thinking when he saw Mickey standing in front of him. He gave them both hugs and kisses and we took a lot of pictures.

I was sort of stressed out all day but I had a good time. It was worth it just to see the smile on his face during the parade and other rides.

Pooping Success

Many of you commented on one of my previous blogs regarding my son and the problems we had potty training him to go "number two." I am writing an update so you all know how it is going (if you care about my son's pooping habits, if not, please disregard this post and stop reading at this point.)

Malachi has pooped in the potty three times now and each time he has secretly gone into the bathroom and told us once he had already finished. I think that it has finally clicked in his brain how to tell if he has to go but I think he needs privacy. We always went into the bathroom with him and he refused to go. I guess he just needed some space.

Anyway, those of you who have gone through this are I'm sure rejoicing with me! Thank you for all your advice and truly I believe the following: They will go when they are ready.

Florida Trip

For weeks now, I have been anticipating coming to Florida to see my mom and dad. I am glad I waited until my internship was finished because I am able to sustain a state of complete relaxation and not worry about some paper I will have to do when I get back. Coming back to FL (where my husband and I went to college), I realize how much I miss it.

When I got off of the airplane and walked outside, I was reminded of the way the breeze feels and how amazing it smells here. Most of the time, there is a very nice scent in the air especially when you are around trees with blossoms. I love the way the air feels on your skin. Right now it will probably get into the mid-eighties but I don't mind. The heat feels so good on your skin and the sun is amazing. I'm really pale but I don't mind the sunshine. I love being outside. It makes me feel so happy and hopeful.

Anyway, that all probably sounded very cheesy.

Plans for the week:

Trip to the Mall
Swimming with Abby and Jon
Disney World
Trip to see Nanny
Malachi (Way Early) Bday Celebration

Favorite Reads

Because I will be home with Malachi all summer and there may be sufficient time to do some reading and I need some ideas.

Some of my top reads are:

Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen
Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Although, I will agree the content was a little borderline sometimes.)
The Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien

I would actually like to read The Godfather by Puzo this summer and the fantasy novels by J.V. Jones (suggested by brother, Sam). I'm actually going to FL this week and can't wait to get some reading done every night...

Anyway, I'm taking a poll...What do you think I should read this summer?

I Passed!

Tada!

I have been waiting for about four weeks to see if I passed the final test to receive a teaching certification in the state of KY. Today, I received my score in the mail and I PASSED. I was particularly worried about this test in particular because it wasn't based on Language Arts content knowledge; it was about "the principles of learning and teaching." I'm not very good at memorizing theories about teaching and I didn't really study so I completely expected to fail this test.

I am so amazed that I passed and I'm totally psyched! At least for now, I am done with standardized tests for quite a while!!!

It Walked on my Pillow

A lot of my husband's posts and mine will probably correspond so if you read at least one of our blogs you will probably find out what is happening in our lives.

Last night, we had the privilage of trying to extract a finch from our son's bedroom. Refer to my husbands blog post, http://nebsllim.blogspot.com/2008/01/mouse-killer.html . Our cat, Mouse, likes to hunt and every once in a while it will bring in a few trophies for momma and daddy, i.e. mice, birds...snakes?

Yesterday, while I was laying out, I came in and realized after seeing bird feathers everywhere that there was a live bird still in the bathroom. I got the cat out and shut the door, waiting for Ben to come home and take care of it. The bird went under the door and found itself in my sons room. My son always gets very excited about these events. He loves what the cat brings in no matter dead or alive.

Anyway, while Ben was in my son's room chasing around a live bird that is as small as a three year olds fist, I thought of one of my favorite Arrested Development moments. When Lucille is on the phone with Michael trying to decide if Buster should move out, Buster runs into the room with a butterfly net chasing a bird. His mother tells him to stop and he says, "but Mom, it's a bird!" Lucille tells Buster that it will fly out of its own but Bust shouts, "It's a bird! It walked on my pillow!" I know, totally random line but everytime we see that scene my husband and I bust up laughing together.

Yesterday we experienced this live and in person. By the way, we were able to remove the bird by trapping it between a cup and a towel and we set it free in the back yard where it flew away.
